Tips For The Right Way To Buy Stamps
|
|
You wouldn’t think it would be so hard to buy stamps, but around here it is apparently something I’m not supposed to do. There are many times when I have needed to get a card out on time, or when I had a stack of Christmas cards to go out. I know you can buy stamps online but this is not an option for me, so I must rely on the good nature of my husband. The problem with him is that if it is not something for him, he really couldn’t care less. Nothing, and I mean nothing, ever goes out on time and it is because I can’t buy stamps.
For me, to buy stamps means physically going to the post office. I remember a time when you could put money in a special envelope and put it in your mailbox. These days are gone as far as I know, and this is actually something I can understand. I know mail carriers have a lot of stuff to deliver, and perhaps having to count money and dole out stamps is more than they should have to do. I don’t know if you can still buy stamps like this, but I haven’t heard you can in a long time.
Because we have one car and my husband works unreal hours sometimes. This means that unless I can walk somewhere, I’m not going. The post office is just far enough away from where I live that it is not an option to walk there. I have tried to buy stamps at the grocery stores and other stores near me, but none of them have stamps to sell. I could walk to the post office by myself rather easily, but my daughter cannot make the long walk. She is too big for a stroller, so I am at the mercy of my husband. This is not something that I am happy about, as you can imagine.
I should go buy stamps in large quantities, but my husband always says that we can’t afford it that week. It’s really getting on my nerves. We don’t pay our bills via the mail, that’s at least one good thing or we wouldn’t have gas or electric at this point. He will go the post office for me on occasion, but the time he has for that is apparently rare. I guess I am just going to have to hijack the car once a month and buy stamps in large quantities without talking to him about if first. Otherwise, you can expect my Christmas card to arrive mid June if you are lucky.
